Recruiting in the Crowded Web 2.0 World
The demand of talent in the Web2.0 market is making it a challenge for hiring specialists and hiring managers to hire enough people for their projects.
Why is it the case? Well it has been happening for a while. We suddenly noticed that this year the market has gone up ten fold.
The need for better User Interfaces and more efficient and user friendly sites has caused the Web2.0 skills sets to catapult into great demand.
There are many different businesses utilizing the web for business exchange. The consumer mentality has been changing for years. People are buying products, banking, booking travel, etc over the web. This has created high demand for Web2.0 skills. This is law of economics; big demand limited resources.
Hiring for Web2.0 types in this market can be tricky. Web2.0 types are commanding a considerable amount of income and they are getting multiple job offers. Many of them are contracting because their professions are more project driven and they are able to command $150-200+ per hour.
How do you set yourself apart from others?
Candidates will move for several of reasons; one is a job promotion, more money, interesting technology and/or great team. You need to set your company apart by emphasizing all of the positives, but also be forthright on the negatives too. People do not like surprises.
“Time kills all deals.” Great saying and it is true. If you take your time with a candidate, your likelihood of losing him/her to a competing suitor is much higher. You want to be thorough and decisive in your hiring practices.
Employers now are experiencing a candidate driven market in the Web2.0 space and it takes savvy recruiters and hiring managers to stay ahead of their competition.
Knowing your competition, establishing a good trusting relationship with the candidate, understanding their desires and marrying the candidate to the appropriate environment ensures success for all parties involved.
If you are a web2.0 type, congratulations, you are in the right market and the right time.
